Robot-guided spine surgery is now available from our surgeons of Olympia Orthopaedic Associates and Capital Medical Center. They are the only surgeons performing these procedures in the state of Washington.
Benefits of the Mazor Robotics Renaissance® Guidance System include:
- Increased precision placement of hardware in the spine, within 1.5 millimeter accuracy
- Reduced need for additional X-rays during a procedure
- Lower complication rates
- Faster recovery than traditional and minimally invasive spine surgeries
Prior to using this system, a surgeon either performed an open spine surgery with a large incision or used a minimally invasive method with small incisions, utilizing live X-ray imaging called fluoroscopy.
“The advantages of the Renaissance® Guidance System make it the best of both worlds. The system allows for a greater accuracy than can be obtained without assistance, but still leaves the surgeon in control of the procedure,” says Dr. Andrew Manista, one of the surgeons performing these procedures.
Washington local Wayne Stanley suffered from severe scoliosis from a young age and recently had a lumbar fusion and hardware implanted to keep his spine in the proper position. Dr. Manista was able to utilize the Renaissance® Guidance System to precisely place the rods and screws for Stanley’s surgery.
“I’m now able to walk without taking long breaks and function normally,” Stanley says. “To not be in pain all day has been the best change.”
